Roofing ceremony of the cold rolling investment held in Krefeld, Germany

Outokumpu is investing about 108 million euros in its German facility in Krefeld to ensure its production of high-quality stainless steels is fit for the future. The project started at the end of 2014.

For the world’s technology leader in the production of stainless steel and high-performance materials, this marks the biggest ongoing investment. Oliver Picht, Senior Vice President for Outokumpu’s Business Line Nirosta in Coil EMEA, and Garrelt Duin, Secretary for Economic Affairs, Energy and Industry for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, joined with a host of other guests to celebrate the roofing ceremony of the newly constructed hood annealing facility.

Strengthening of the production of top-quality stainless steel
The enhancement of ferrite production capabilities in Krefeld marks a key step forward in ensuring Outokumpu’s long-term competitiveness in one of its most important markets.

“By the end of 2016, we expect to have transferred our current production from our Benrath plant to Krefeld and prepared it for manufacturing with the very latest process technologies. This modernization will ensure we continue to meet the highest demands of our customers for top-quality stainless steel. Furthermore, the conversion of the existing equipment will enable us to produce top-quality, high-gloss surfaces,” says Oliver Picht.

State-of-the-art process and equipment technology
Thanks to state-of-the-art process and equipment technology, Outokumpu is able to significantly increase efficiency and synergy effects in the production of stainless-steel products, while at the same time reducing energy consumption and emissions.

Global manufacturing and supply strategy
The German plants are major elements in Outokumpu’s global manufacturing and supply strategy. The highest product quality and individual technical service provide the foundations for Outokumpu’s long-standing leadership in the marketplace.
