Outokumpu recognized as an industry leader in CDP’s Supplier Engagement Assessment with an ‘A’ score
Outokumpu has been recognized as an industry leader in CDP’s Supplier Engagement Assessment (SEA), earning an ‘A’ score for its work to advance responsible and low carbon value chains. The assessment evaluates companies on governance, target setting, Scope 3 emissions management, and engagement with their suppliers.
The recognition highlights Outokumpu’s progress in building a transparent and resilient supply chain. Over the past five years, Outokumpu has strengthened its due diligence processes, developed a Supplier Code of Conduct now covering 93% of high-impact suppliers, and rolled out a sustainability self-assessment program with EcoVadis. Among raw material suppliers, more than 80% of spend is now covered by EcoVadis assessments, which brings considerable insights into the supply chain. Over the last five years, the maturity of Outokumpu’s suppliers has also increase which is supported by the 20% increase in EcoVadis assessment scores.
“We are proud to be recognized by CDP for our supplier engagement leadership. Much of this work started originally from zero over five years ago, and the best feedback we receive is that we have helped suppliers strengthen their own sustainability practices. This is how real change happens across value chains,” says Pia Lindqvist, Head of Supplier Sustainability at Outokumpu.
Regarding emission reductions, Outokumpu has established Scope 3 reporting processes and continues to expand supplier specific emissions data. Scope 3 emissions represent a majority of Outokumpu’s total footprint, and raw materials play a central role in reducing emission-intensity. High recycled content and the search for new low‑emission primary raw materials remain key drivers of this progress.
Environmental and social impacts are often intertwined. To mitigate those impacts, Outokumpu integrates sustainability criteria into supplier onboarding, performance evaluations and risk assessments, and conducts targeted on‑site audits based on environmental and human rights risks. This approach supports the company’s vision to accelerate a green and just transition across the stainless steel value chain together with its suppliers.
About CDP: CDP is a global non‑profit that runs the world’s leading environmental disclosure system. Its Supplier Engagement Assessment (SEA) evaluates how effectively companies work with their value chains to reduce emissions and manage climate‑related risks.
