Stainless steel products in our Core range are designed for a multitude of applications in corrosive environments with a PRE of 17 to 22. This versatile range features some of our most popular grades - Core 304/4301 and Core 304L/4307 - as well as variants, and low-nickel and nickel-free products.

The austenitic grades in Core ensure excellent formability properties, while the single or double stabilization of the ferritic grades offer good performance during light forming and welding operations. Typical applications of Core products include architectural panels, restaurant equipment, beverage storage tanks, home appliances, kitchen utensils and fittings, rebar, automotive exhaust pipes, elevators, as well as pipe and tube industry.

The right combination of high performance and cost efficiency

Enrique Zaldivar, Quality and Technical Services Manager, Outokumpu Stainless USA, explains the primary purpose of this range: “Our Core range underlines the customer benefit of our new categorization; the ability to offer you more choice, cost-efficient options and similar or even higher performance. This range has products with good basic characteristics and ready availability, so it’s a good place to start if you don’t have special requirements in mind.”

Finding you the best material

As with other product ranges, Core gives you more choice and makes it easier for you to select the optimum stainless steel product for your specific need. Enrique explains a good case in point; our solution for elevator panels.

“For many years, Core 304/4301 played a major role in the elevator market. One of our customers was faced with the challenge of finding ways to reduce their internal costs in order to preserve their market competitiveness. We were able to help them by presenting a more cost-effective alternative without compromising the quality and performance of the end product. The solution was to switch to  Core 441/4509, a dual stabilized alloy that contains the same PRE level as 304/4301. The higher formability characteristics of Core 304/4301 were not needed so by looking at performance as the starting point requirement we were able t
o find a better alternative.”
