PrometalBakli shifts to Outokumpu Circle Green® stainless steel to accelerate Europe’s green transition

PrometalBakli S.A., the leading stainless steel and tinplate service center in Greece with operations extending to Spain and Poland, is shifting to the world’s first near-zero stainless steel.

From this year, all purchases of Outokumpu stainless steel will be, where available, Outokumpu Circle Green® - the stainless steel with an up to 93% smaller carbon footprint compared to the industry average.

Circle Green  is expected to represent more than one-third of PrometalBakli’s annual stainless steel purchases, with the first order of 3,500 tonnes set to be delivered in 2026.

“Leadership in distribution means shaping demand for materials that will define the next era of industry,” said Sergio Scampini, Head of Sales in Italy and Greece at Outokumpu. “Circle Green delivers the same trusted stainless steel performance our partners expect, while providing the lowest product carbon footprint available. Together with distributors like PrometalBakli, we are making decarbonization tangible across real supply chains.”

Lower product carbon footprint, same trusted performance

The family-owned company, founded in the 1950s and now in its fourth generation of active leadership, is taking a decisive step to bring lower emission stainless steel to customers across its network and help advance the green transition in the region.

As a distributor with deep roots and a long-term industrial mindset, PrometalBakli is aligning its portfolio with materials that meet both technical demands and environmental expectations. The company’s leadership has emphasized that industrial progress and environmental responsibility must advance together.

“At PrometalBakli, leadership means taking responsibility for the future we are shaping,” jointly stated Giannis and Nefeli Bakli, next generation representatives of the family business leadership. “By committing to Circle Green stainless steel today, we are reducing our environmental footprint while integrating environmental matters in industrial conscience, setting the example for others to follow.”

Making low-emission stainless steel available at scale

PrometalBakli’s ambition is to help position Greece among the most sustainable stainless steel markets in the world from 2026 onward, reflecting a broader regional push to unite industrial performance and climate responsibility. Through its network, the company will offer Circle Green products including Core 304L and Supra 316L, making low-emission  choices available at scale.

In 2024, Outokumpu supported customers in reducing their supply chain emissions by more than 10 million tonnes compared to the global average carbon footprint of stainless steel.
