Outokumpu Supra 316plus accepted into five ASTM standards for tubular products

Outokumpu’s newest addition to its product portfolio, the high-chromium austenitic Supra 316plus (EN 1.4420, ASTM UNS S31655) has been accepted into five ASTM standards for tubular products as UNS S31655. Supra 316plus was accepted as UNS S31655 into the ASTM A240 standard edition 15A already in March 2015.

Supra 316plus was accepted in following standards:

  • ASTM A249/A249M – 15: Standard Specification for Welded Austenitic Steel Boiler, Superheater, Heat Exchanger, and Condenser Tubes
  • ASTM A269/A269M – 15: Standard Specification for Seamless and Welded Austenitic Stainless Steel Tubing for General Service
  • ASTM A312/312M-15a: Standard Specification for Seamless, Welded, and Heavily Cold Worked Austenitic Stainless Steel Pipes
  • ASTM A358/A358M – 15: Standard Specification for Electric-Fusion-Welded Austenitic Chromium-Nickel Stainless Steel Pipe for High-Temperature Service and General Applications
  • ASTM A554 − 15a: Standard Specification for Welded Stainless Steel Mechanical Tubing

“Supra 316plus is an attractive alternative for applications where you would currently select Supra 316 or Supra 316L. Supra 316plus has better corrosion resistance and higher strength with competitive pricing. The grade performs similarly to Supra 316 and Supra 316L for example in forming and it can be welded by using conventional welding methods, “says Juha Kela, Outokumpu product manager of Supra 316plus.
