Reporting
Our goal is that no one will need to suffer from ill-health or accident. It is, therefore, important that we take action and learn from the events that do occur. An open climate where reporting of incidents, accidents or other events or risks is a natural part and therefore an important foundation to constantly improve. Described below is what you are expected to report.
MIA - is our reporting system to report risks, nearmisses and accidents. The system is available to everyone via the intranet O'net. As contractor, you notify the contact person who will report the incident or the risk in the system.
- HAZARD - You see something that could cause ill health or accident if measures are not taken. For example, leaking line or rail that is not placed correctly.
- NEARMISS - A sudden unwanted event, but no one was injured. For example, a lifting sling breaks or something falls from a crane.
- ACCIDENT - A sudden unwanted event where someone is injured.
Environment - If you find something that can affect the external environment, make sure to tell the concerned staff or contact person.

- Which alarm point is closest
SOS alarm centre connects the emergency services, ambulance, and police with Outokumpu's local emergency staff and gatekeeper in case of alarm. These can then communicate during the entire rescue operation.
Alarm points
Avesta Works is a large area and complex workplace. In order to make it possible for emergency staff to quickly get to the proper alarm address, there are alarm points placed at strategic locations in the area (orange signs with black digits). The alarm points are also often used as assembly points in the event of evacuation.
Assembly Point
Avesta Assembly point signEveryone must go to the assembly point in event of evacuation. The assembly point is marked with the sign on the right. The assembly point is the same as one of the alarm points.
First aid articles and fire equipment
Bandages, eye/emergency washes, etc. are available in the work area in a number of locations.
Contractors shall, in the first place, provide bandages and fire equipment for their employees. If Avesta Works' equipment has been used, Avesta Works' work management shall be informed as soon as possible.
Alarm procedures
Evacuation alarm
Red rotating light at all points, pulsating sound. Immediately terminate work and head to the designated alarm point. Wait for response from the emergency services before you go back into the building.
LPG alarm
LPG alarms are found at Steel Mills/String and Hot rolling mill. At LPG alarm light and sound signals are activated, safety shutoff valves shut the LPG and alarm goes to the Main gate and Emergency services.
Low alarm - Red rotating light at the alarm point, no sound signal. LPG delivery is stopped and the safety valves are closed automatically. Only operators at each unit receive this alarm and know what needs to be done.
High alarm - Red rotating light at all points, fixed sound signal. As long as you hear this signal, you have time to complete current work, secure the equipment and prepare for evacuation. Do not forget to turn off welding equipment, hand tools etc.
If there is uncertainty as to whether the alarm is an LPG alarm, play it safe and leave the facility.
