Operating with highly sophisticated equipment and wide expertise, Outokumpu’s Nyby mill is in a class of its own. Located in Torshälla, Sweden, Nyby produces cold-rolled coil and sheet products from black hot band, material primarily sourced from Outokumpu’s Avesta melt shop.
Nyby’s operation focuses on Pro family grades, including high-alloyed grades like Ultra, duplex grades (Forta) and heat-resistant grades (Therma). Products are manufactured in thicknesses ranging from 0.4 mm to 4.5 mm.
Specialized services are standard business for the skilled Nyby workforce. The mill also produces added value products, including temper-rolled, welding strips, fine-flatness tolerances and patterned surfaces designed to meet exacting customer specifications.
Nyby’s tradition of excellence is rooted in a long heritage of steelmaking. The Nyby mill was founded in 1829 where documented production operations in the area can be traced to the 15th century.

To ensure the safety in the Nyby plant, a safety certificate has been devised for contractors and Outokumpu personnel. The certificate ensures that all employees working in Nyby have sufficient knowledge level in occupational safety, health and safety coordination, and risks.
Both Outokumpu personnel as well as all contractor employees must attend the safety certificate course and successfully complete an online safety test, which is offered in Swedish. The goal is to protect all employees from accidents.
