Several life-cycle studies indicate that in many applications the total cost of stainless steel is lower than that of competing materials; in certain cases, cost savings can be in the range of 30% to 40%, due to reduced repair and maintenance costs. Renewable energy solutions such as solar power, biofuels and wind energy require components and materials that can be sustainably sourced and yield low life-cycle costs. Stainless steel is an optimal choice in such areas.
Environmental product declarations
We offer quantitative and verified information on the environmental impact of our main products for the architecture, building and construction in the form of environmental product declarations and LEED fact sheets for green building. With the help of this information, our customers know exact environmental impacts and energy needs of our products and can calculate how these affect the life cycle of their structure.
We have issued four EPDs for stainless steel in construction. The data is based on a representative mix of the production. The EPDs were issued by IBU, Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V., and they are valid for a period of five years.
