High performance austenitic grades

If you need material for a harsh environment like an offshore oil platform or desalination plant, the chances are that your choice will be an Outokumpu high-alloyed, high-performance austenitic grade.

Our high-alloyed, high-performance austenitic grades are available for a wide range of process conditions, providing the right protection against corrosion, material deterioration or maintenance need.

Typical applications for high-alloyed austenitic grades:

  • pressure vessels
  • heat exchangers
  • seawater handling
  • pulp bleaching
  • hydrometallurgy
  • cryogenic applications

Our high-alloyed austenitic grades achieve their enhanced resistance to corrosion and other properties by heightened levels of chromium, nickel, molybdenum and/or nitrogen, depending on the application at hand. They have good weldability and excellent formability.

Grade properties

High-alloyed austenitic stainless steels differ substantially from more conventional grades with regard to resistance to corrosion and, in some cases, also mechanical and physical properties. This is mainly due to the high contents of chromium, nickel, molybdenum and nitrogen.

Weldability

High-alloyed austenitic stainless steels are highly suitable for welding. Due to high contents of chromium, nickel, molybdenum and nitrogen, their corrosion resistance and in some cases mechanical properties are superior to conventional Cr-Ni and Cr-Ni-Mo grades. From the point of view of workshop practice, the high-alloyed austenitic grades are somewhat similar to standard austenitic grades.

Corrosion resistance

Outokumpu high-alloyed austenitic grades provide some of the highest corrosion resistance achievable with stainless steel. The resistance to uniform corrosion and localized corrosion, including chloride and sulfide induced stress corrosion cracking, is very good. Each grade is outstanding in its distinct area.
