An explosion occurred on an ancillary piece of equipment used for re-cycling waste material at the AvestaPolarit SMACC melting shop in Sheffield on Friday morning, 29th August 2003 at about 02.30 a.m.  Two operatives sustained burns to their legs and hands and were admitted to the Northern General Hospital, where they are being treated for burns.  The explosion has caused no disruption to operations.

A full enquiry into the cause of the explosion has commenced and the H.S.E. have been notified.
