The aim of Outokumpu Oyj Foundation is to develop the Finnish metal production and processing, metal and mining technology, ore geology and corresponding business activities by promoting academic research and university education. It supports both researches and students in the universities in Finland. Research topics are selected mainly on the basis of their usefulness in practice.
To attain its objective, the foundation:
- supports research in its field of activity by awarding grants to research groups and to individual students pursuing post-graduate studies or post-doctoral research;
- promotes the internationalisation of its field of activity by awarding grants for pursuing graduate and post-graduate studies and research in universities and research institutions abroad, travel grants for participation in international conferences and practical training abroad, and grants for inviting guest research lecturers;
- participates in the publication of textbooks and doctoral theses in its field of activity;
- distributes student grants; and
- awards recognition prizes for master's and doctoral theses of outstanding merit or for other remarkable achievements in its field of activity.
