Outokumpu Duplex 2304 is the initial duplex grade to be offered with 2B finish. This makes the Outokumpu Duplex grades even more preferable to standard austenitic grades. The 2B surface on Outokumpu Duplex 2304 has in fact better Ra values than the 2B surface on corresponding austenitic grade. The 2B surface on duplex grades is not as bright as standard austenitic and because of that some consideration is needed.
Taking the duplex grades one step further
As the knowledge and use of the Outokumpu Duplex grades has increased so has the demand for 2B surface. Avesta Works within the Outokumpu Group has thoroughly developed their production to be able to offer a 2B surface with properties comparable to standard austenitic. Changing from austenitic grade to Outokumpu Duplex grades can now decrease the costs even more, not only in thickness but also reduce the need of polishing.
Available dimensions
The 2B surface on Outokumpu Duplex 2304 is available in all sizes as the regular 2E surface within the Avesta Works product programme, i.e. standard thickness from 1,5 mm up to 4 mm, but when requested even up to 6 mm. Standard widths are 1500 mm and 2000 mm, but if you have any specific requirements we will do our best to meet them. Please contact us for further information regarding dimensions and delivery time.

- Greater price stability than austenitic 316L/1.4404
- High strength allows thinner wall thickness than austenitic grades, giving real potential for weight and cost savings
- Good resistance to uniform, pitting and crevice corrosion (PRE 26)
- High resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC)
- Excellent abrasive and erosion resistance
- Low thermal expansion (similar to carbon steel)
- Higher thermal conductivity – a big advantage in heat exchangers
- Very good machining performance
- Very good weldability
- Operating range -40 to +250°C
