In total the reports of some 160 organizations were analyzed. This year, the jury placed special emphasis on companies’ efforts in the field of supply chain management and human resources management as part of social responsibility. Outokumpu was awarded as the best reporter of the competition. Outokumpu’s report focused on listening to stakeholders, global economic downturn, climate change mitigation, wellbeing and safety. According to the jury Outokumpu explained the various ways of stakeholder dialogue such as web-based dialogue and stakeholder panel.

“I’m extremely pleased and honoured with this high level recognition and encouragement. Corporate responsibility reporting is still voluntary, but we believe that it contributes to improving our responsible performance as well as transparency. It helps our stakeholders get a better understanding of our operations and the challenges in stainless steel business. The responsible way to operate is the basis, but it is also important to let people know about our achievements”, says Liisa Jalanko, Vice President for corporate responsibility in Outokumpu Oyj.

This was the 14th time the Finnish corporate responsibility reporting was reviewed. The review was organized by the Confederation of Finnish Industries EK, Finnish Business & Society, Ministry of Employment and the Economy, Ministry of the Environment, Association of Environmental Management and Finnish Institute of Authorized Public Accountants. The assessment criterion was based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 guidelines.
