Awarded Grants for 2009

Outokumpu Oyj Foundation, which aims at promoting academic research and university education in metal production and processing, metal and mining technology, ore geology and corresponding business activity, awarded on December 8, 2008 grants for the year 2009 to the amount of 222 900 euro.

BEST MASTER’S THESIS IN 2008

M.Sc. Jari Savolainen, University of Oulu, received an award of 2 000 euro on his master’s thesis ”The Research of Slag Emulsification with Physical Miniature Model”.

Additionally, two master’s theses were granted special rewards:

M.Sc. Lauri Aspola, Helsinki University of Technology, received an award of 1 500 euro on his thesis “Sustainability Indicators in Copper Smelting Processes”.

M.Sc. Timo Juuti, University of Oulu, received an award of 1 500 euro on his thesis “Static Strain Ageing in FCC-Structured Austenitic Stainless Steels”.

PROFESSOR’S GRANT

Professor Simo-Pekka Hannula, Helsinki University of Technology € 10 000

The grant was awarded to professor Simo-Pekka Hannula to encourage to develop new research fields, renewal of lecture materials and as an acknowledgement for promoting the international research cooperation in the field of material sciences.
