Avesta Research Centre is looking to appoint a leader of the research on aqueous and atmospheric corrosion.
Outokumpu is one of the leading suppliers on a growing and competitive stainless steel market. This involves continuous development of innovative products which meet customer demands in existing and new stainless applications. Outokumpu has a long tradition of stainless product development and is today as a consequence the world’s largest producer
of stainless special grades, of which the duplex grades are by far the most important. In the Product Properties Department some 15 researchers work with characterisation of existing and new stainless steel products, with a focus on physical metallurgy, corrosion and high temperature properties. Our most important activities are characterisation of the behaviour
of stainless steel in production processes and in customer applications. We have modern laboratories with advanced equipment, and work actively with development of experimental techniques. Internal projects involve co-operation between different groups and departments. Most projects are performed at the request of different business units within the company. Cooperation with customers and external research organisations is also frequent.
We are looking for a corrosion engineer to lead the Corrosion knowledge group, which currently comprises six researchers. The group works with characterisation of our products for different customer applications, with a focus on the new steel grades that Outokumpu introduces to the market. This work is performed within industrial market segments, in close cooperation with business units and customers.
The main tasks are to support our business units and their customers through research projects concerning corrosion in atmospheric or aqueous environments. We have newly renovated laboratories for aqueous corrosion and use advanced techniques for electrochemical measurements. Results are documented in reports and also presented to our business units, customers and at international conferences.
Your qualifications are at least a Master of Science within materials technology, chemistry or an allied field. Working experience in the area of corrosion, preferably on corrosion of stainless steel is an advantage. Organisation and leadership qualities are necessary, as is a good spoken and written command of English.
