In 2007 Outokumpu was listed on more and more corporate responsibility indexes. Being included on these indexes offers Outokumpu the opportunity to differentiate itself from its competitors as an expert in corporate responsibility. It is also a recognition of the fact that Outokumpu has succeeded in fulfilling certain criteria of responsible operations. On the other hand, the independent indexes offer the chance to see which areas of corporate responsibility still have room for improvement.

Outokumpu is member of the Pan-European Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Index (DJSI STOXX) and the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World).
Outokumpu has been a member of the DJSI STOXX since September 2006. In September 2007, Outokumpu was accepted for the first time to the DJSI World.
The Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes follow a best-in-class approach and include the sustainability leaders from each industry on a global and regional level. The annual review of the DJSI family is based on a through analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance, assessing issues such as corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate change, supply chain standards and labor practices. Half of the assessment measures general sustainability criteria, and half relates to industry specific sustainability issues.
Outokumpu is committed to corporate responsibility with the aim to have all the three aspects - environmental, economic, and social - in balance. Implementing Outokumpu's ethical values throughout the Group is an important part of this commitment. Outokumpu organized two responsibility dialogues on the web for all its employees during 2006. During 2007 employee groups have participated in a number of workshops to discuss the concrete ethical issues of their daily work.

Outokumpu has earned "best in class" status for its leading environmental and social performance in the Mining & Metals Industry and therefore qualifies for investment in Storebrand's SRI mandates.
Storebrand's Socially Responsible investment (SRI) analyzed altogether 56 companies. SRI team performs periodic analyses of companies listed in the Morgan Stanley Capital International World index. Companies ranking among the top 30 percent of Storebrand's SRI assessment earn the Storebrand Best in Class qualification.
In the 2006-2007 analysis the best companies in addition to Outokumpu were Alcoa, Anglo-American, BHP Billiton, Boliden, Iluka Resources, JFE Holdings, Kobe Steel, Newcrest mining, Newmonth Mining, Rautaruukki, Rio Tinto, SSAB Svenskt Stål, Sumitoto Metal Industries, Tech Cominco and Xstara.
best in Class Qualification is valid until another statement is given from Storebrand's SRI department. Best in Class Qualification is awarded to companies qualified for Storebrand SRI Mandates since January 2002 and onwards.
