Mika, could you tell us a little bit about what you do at Outokumpu? As Corporate Controller, I am responsible for financial and business control, as well as tax management – providing correct and relevant information for management, investors and other relevant stakeholders of Outokumpu.
What was your motivation for applying? This position offers an excellent opportunity to have an overview of a big company and seeing its long-term strategy and the everyday industrial operations turning into profitability. In my position, I think I have a good chance to impact the future of our company. Together with my team, I can make significant things happen.
Could you tell us something about your responsibilities? My primary responsibilities include financial reporting and analysis to the management, owners and other stakeholders, managing our performance management process, managing and developing the financial processes and systems, as well as tax management. In this role I report to our CFO. My main contacts are our management and my finance colleagues in the various businesses and auditors. In order to succeed in this challenging role, it is crucial to build up and maintain excellent relations with all of these people.
What are your formal and personal qualifications for this job? I studied at Helsinki School of Economics, gained experience by working at different levels of the organization and with many businesses within Outokumpu. English is naturally the main language for me in daily communication. Working well with numbers is important in my job, but even more important is to work well with people as, after all, it is up to people to make things happen.
Are there any special possibilities and advantages with your job? In my job, I very much enjoy seeing the many different things happening within the company and also working with people in many parts of the organization. Not many jobs can offer this!
