The team from OSUK, in collaboration with Bergs (Sweden) have provided OSUK with another value added process route, to add to the already impressive capabilities of the Sheffield service centre.

The Traverse Winder will assist in the focused development of the slit narrow coil sector. This sector demands a high level of specification particularly in terms of production tolerances. Previously supplying this sector involved hire-working, but bringing the process in-house will ensure attention to detail and a quick response to customer needs.

The traverse winder also offers the following benefits:

• Heavier coils will mean fewer production line changeovers for our customers and therefore improve productivity.
• Improved in house services will provide opportunities to forge closer partnerships with customers.
• More options on material inputs - smaller coils welded together give a Traverse Wound Coil.

The traverse winder allows the production of coils 3t with up to 70km of strip per coil. The range able to be processed is between 0.6mm-3mm on gauge and 8mm to 80mm on width and in addition there is the facility to combine multi pancake coils and convert production from traverse coils to pancake coils, should the requirement arise.
