What do you do at Outokumpu?

I work in a generalist HR role offering support and advice to line managers within the melting shop, S.M.A.C.C. (Stainless Melting and Continuous Casting) in Sheffield. The role demands both strategic and operational involvement across all areas of H.R. including workforce planning, resourcing, development, talent management, performance management, compensation and benefits, employee relations and health and well-being.

How has your career progressed?

I started at Outokumpu in 2008 as a H.R. placement student which formed part of my university degree, and then during my final year of University I continued to work part time at Outokumpu as a H.R. and Training Assistant. Once I had graduated from University I was offered a H.R.D. Officer role before becoming the H.R. Officer for S.M.A.C.C. at the end of 2011.

What do you enjoy the most in your job?

I enjoy the variety of the work as well as working with the team at the melting shop. Team working is an important part of our culture, everyone works together to ensure we can adapt quickly, find the best solutions and remain focused on achieving the best results.

What do you like about Outokumpu?

Outokumpu values its employees and offers fantastic opportunities. As an international Company you gain exposure to work with colleagues from different cultures and backgrounds.

What does Outokumpu's new vision of a world that lasts forever mean to you?

To me Outokumpu’s new vision refers to our strength in maintaining our position as the number one in Stainless. As a Company we have seen many changes over the last few years but have been able to survive any challenge and ensure we last forever.

Anything else you would like to tell a possible future colleague about working at Outokumpu?

Individuals should be proactive about their development and need to grab any opportunities that arise and made the most of them!
