When you’re supplying parts for a famous American motorcycle brand – known for making tough, reliable machines – material selection and fabrication has to be of the very highest quality.
Rolled Alloys, Illinois, USA, is a leading supplier of specialty metals including
grades in round and hexagon bar.
They supplied 1" diameter Prodec 303/4305 stainless bar to JBA Precision, Wisconsin, USA, a one-man fabricating and machine shop that supplies groupings of washers for use in the motorcycle industry.
JBA’s customer needed washers for connecting the fairing and windshield to the bike frame. Fabricating the washers requires precise and efficient tooling processes, which is why Prodec was chosen.
"By the second run with Prodec 303/4305, I noticed that I was getting up to 500 cuts, and normally I’d change the tool tip after 100 to 300 cuts," said
Jeffrey Kopidlansky, owner-operator of JBA Precision. "And the finish maintained for a longer time, even with a duller tool."
Since implementing Prodec 303/4305, Kopidlansky has noticed that tools are lasting six months or longer, and drill speeds have also increased.
