 Corrosion resistance

In general, the Outokumpu Core range has good corrosion resistance in solutions of many halogenfree organic and inorganic compounds over a wide temperature and concentration range. They can withstand many organic and sufficiently diluted mineral acids depending on the temperature of the solution.

In chloride containing solutions pitting and crevice corrosion is possible depending on various parameters like chloride concentration, temperature, pH value, redox potential, crevice geometry and others.

The best material performance is reached usually with the help of adequate design, correct post-weld treatment and regular cleaning during use (if applicable).

Outokumpu Core range products can be readily formed and fabricated by a full range of cold forming operations. Austenitics offer better elongation, while ferritics have excellent deep drawability.

Conventional welding methods like MMA, MIG, MAG, TIG, SAW, LBW or RSW, except gas welding are applicable. With austenitic steels, larger deformation and higher shrinkage stresses may result from welding. With ferritics, heat input should be minimized to reduce the grain growth in the affected zone. Cleaning the weld seam has a significant importance for corrosion resistance.
