Outokumpu offers the broadest range of stainless steel alloys to meet the exacting standards of today’s transportation industry. Whether your focus is on reducing exhaust gases or lowering chassis weight, we have the stainless steel to meet your need.
Outokumpu stainless steel products have been used for decades in various modes of automotive and transportation including:
- road and rail tankers & containers
- passenger vehicles
- trail wagons
- flexible hoses
- head gaskets
Stainless steel benefits
The effective transportation of chemicals, food products, liquids, and passengers depends on safety and economy. Emission reduction standards are also setting huge demands on the design of new vehicles. The beneficial properties of stainless steel can overcome these challenges.
- Our high-strength stainless steels offer high-energy absorption at impact and a greater level of fire resistance
- Our high-strength stainless steels allow for thinner tank container sections and therefore significant reduction in material and cost
- The corrosion resistance of all our stainless steels brings savings in cleaning and maintenance, for example by speeding up tank container turnarounds or by reducing the need for painting or coating railcars
Outokumpu product offering
Our full range of grades include our lean duplex stainless steel grades Forta LDX 2101 and Forta LDX 2404, which combine low nickel content with high mechanical strength.
In applications where very high ductility, wide temperature ranges, or specific corrosion features are desired, Outokumpu’s austenitic stainless steel and superaustenitic stainless steel grades are often recommended.
Outokumpu's superaustenitic stainless steel grades have shown reliability in resisting highly corrosive environments.
Forta H-Series stainless steel
Outokumpu’s new Forta H-Series is ideal for automotive lightweight constructions. The advanced manganesechromium alloy forms a new material group for sustainable design and optimized crash performance within the automotive technology. The Forta H-Series austenitic products provide high strength and ductility and have been used in the automotive industry for over 10 years to create lighter, more durable components.
A yield strength of Rp0.2
≥ 1000 MPa in combination with high elongations at fracture is opening up new opportunities in lightweight engineering and design with steel. The material also has very high energy absorption in the event of an impact.
The Forta H-Series is available as Forta H500
, Forta H800 and Forta H1000, where the designations refer to yield strength.
