Our history goes back to the invention of steel and we continue to drive stainless steel innovation. Our latest innovation is Circle Green®, a product line with up to 93% lower carbon footprint compared to the global industry average. If all the stainless steel in the world was produced with the same methods used for Outokumpu Circle Green® production, it would reduce global carbon emissions from the entire stainless steel value chain by 364 million tons per year. This equals to over 900 million one-way flights of one passenger across the Atlantic Ocean from London to New York.
Our business
Our business is based on circular economy, as our most important raw material is recycled steel or scrap. Out of our three business areas, Europe and the Americas are responsible for manufacturing and selling stainless steel in their market areas, and Ferrochrome run our chrome mine and ferrochrome works – ferrochrome an essential raw material, as chrome is what makes steel stainless.

Our stainless steel mills are located in Finland, Germany, Mexico, Sweden and the US, and our headquarters are in Finland.
Sustainability leader in the world
Smallest carbon footprint in both stainless steel and ferrochrome, up to 75% and 67% lower than the industry average, respectively.
Business based on circular economy
Our main raw material is recycled steel – recycled material content in our products is 95%. At the end of their long life cycle, stainless steel is 100% recyclable.
