Successful fabrication in duplex steels require full awareness to their different properties compared to austenitic stainless steel

Welding

- Weldability of duplex is good

- Most welding methods can be used

- Welding characteristic deviates from austenitic steel

- Welding personnel must be informed and qualified
according to the demands of the application

Cold forming

Higher strength of duplex steels:

- Greater working forces and spring-back during forming

- Somewhat lower ductility (fracture elongation) – avoid sharp bend radie and more demanding forming techniques

Machining

- Duplex steels generally more difficult to machine

- LDX 2101® has excellent machinability
