Outokumpu

Do you want to save some costs?

We are already aware of the characteristic properties of the Outokumpu Duplex grades such as, good to very good resistance to pitting, crevice and uniform corrosion, high resistance to corrosion fatigue and stress corrosion cracking, high mechanical strength with good abrasion and erosion resistance, high energy absorption and good fatigue resistance, low thermal expansion with good weldability and machinability, but what does this mean for end users and contractors?

The Outokumpu Duplex grades have twice the proof strength of austenitic grades. They combine the austenitic formability and the ferrite strength to an excellent mixture. This could result in cost savings in several aspects. Everybody understands that if you can utilize the strength of the Outokumpu Duplex grades, you can save costs at the purchasing moment by ordering thinner material, but it does not stop there. By using thinner material you do not need as many welding consumables and the welding itself could take less time, resulting in lower labour costs. The crane used could be smaller and the strain on the environment decreases since you do not need as much transportation.

Even though the Outokumpu Duplex grades sound like the solution to most problems, there are some drawbacks. Due to the material’s ferrite part you can not use it at a service temperature below -40°C or above +250°C. You also need to remember that this is not an austenitic grade and may have different behavour during manufacturing. If you are not familiar with the Outokumpu Duplex grades, we can help you in several different aspects such as the tools for your own calculations on internet, training in duplex welding, manufacturing instructions, corrosion resistance and even design alteration.
