For decades Outokumpu stainless steel products have been fabricated, machined, and welded into tanks, pipelines, fittings, fasteners, precision parts, and many more components for today’s infrastructure improvements. Outokumpu stainless steel is frequently specified for applications in the most challenging environments where resistance to high heat, corrosion, pitting, and stress corrosion cracking are critical. Our stainless steel has been specifically formulated with fabrication, forming, machining, and welding in mind. Our state-of-the-art melt shops are designed to ensure superior control of product composition, structure, and inclusion pattern–resulting in very clean steel.
For applications where light-weight fabrication is desired, Outokumpu offers a lean duplex stainless steel LDX 2101® which combines low nickel content with high mechanical strength. LDX 2101 also offers excellent machining properties, far batter than those for standard austenitic and duplex grades. Not only can our stronger grades provide cost-savings for the initial material cost, additional project cost savings can also be realized.
In applications where very high ductility, wide temperature ranges, or specific corrosion features are desired, Outokumpu’s austenitic stainless steel and superaustenitic stainless steel grades are often recommended. Outokumpu's superaustenitic stainless steel grades, such as 254 SMO, have for more than 30 years shown reliability in resisting highly corrosive environments like sea water.
Where superior machinability of stainless steel is required, Outokumpu offers PRODEC 303, PRODEC 304 & 304L, PRODEC 316 & 316L bar and plate which shows the same yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, hardness, and toughness as conventionally produced stainless bar and stainless plate, yet its corrosion resistance is equal or superior to that of stainless steel in the same grade. PRODEC (which stands for PRODuction EConomy) is processed to provide uniform consistency of properties from heat-to-heat which helps to keep stainless steel machining and stainless steel fabrication operations running smoothly.
And for high speed steel tooling projects for fittings and fasteners, try Outokumpu 303 HST bar. Engineered to optimize machine performance in high volume screw machines, 303 HST delivers superior surface finish and product consistency. It is also PRODEC-treated, making it the most versatile premium machining stainless steel available.
